Trying Something New

A few months back at work a colleague of mine came over to me and asked what I was going to be doing in a month. This was a normal question as my contract was coming to an end. He wasn’t asking because he wanted to know what my plans were, but he wanted me to know what I was going to do. He was creating an urgency for me to know that I need to look for a permanent role in the company I was with. I told him I would figure something out, not fully understanding the meaning behind the question until he later explained it to me. We ended up sitting down and going over both our resume’s. One thing, among many, that stood out to me on his resume was that he had a website. I had been wanting to create my own website for a while, but was afraid it would be too confusing and challenging. It wasn’t and I was able to pick up the building process quickly. We talked about the name choice of a website, and he ended up saying that for less than $15 a month you can own your own name online. In the grand scheme of building up who you are and what you do when applying for jobs, it is important to show pride in yourself and have a great image. Spending this small amount of money to maintain that image I’ve worked years for is well worth it. That weekend I went out and purchased my domain name and host server. I’m glad I did because I have learned so much.

The main point of this website is to be a personal site about myself. Who I am, what I’ve done, where I’m from, and what I want to do. It is, in a sense, a giant resume. In the end, how much is your name worth to you? Why not create your own website and try something new.
